Did you know that national parks and protected areas provide ecosystem services to the BVI in the face of a changing climate?
How do they do this? Conserving forests means protecting biodiversity - the rare and threatened plants and animals that are unique to the BVI. Forests also provide slope stabilisation - preventing landslides and reducing flood risk. Forests also help to regulate our climate - this means cooling down temperatures and influencing rainfall.
Wow, I didn’t realize just how many benefits forests provide! Protecting biodiversity and preventing landslides seems so crucial, especially with climate change. It’s interesting to think of forests almost like a “level” in a game, like Snake Game, where every part you protect helps the ecosystem grow stronger and stay balanced.
